Dr. Anthony Broughton is an award-winning master teacher, scholar, and a highly regarded leader in early, primary, and higher education. He cultivated his commitment for excellence in transformative education, through his academic pursuit at Benedict College, Columbia College, and earning a Doctorate in Early Childhood Education from the prestigious University of South Carolina by the age of 29. Dr. Broughton embodies the spirit of transformational leadership in higher education as a certified lean six sigma green belt with a certificate in Change Leadership from Cornell University. He has demonstrated his administrative proficiency by successfully leading program-wide efforts which led to the national accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation for two universities and two programs earning national recognition and accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Currently, Dr. Broughton provides additional leadership oversight as the Associate Dean and Associate Professor with tenure at the esteemed Alabama State University where he oversees curriculum and instruction, instructional support programs, and health, physical education and recreation.

 

Dr. Broughton was elected in 2019 to serve as a national governing board member for the National Association for the Education of Young Children and currently serves as the President of the South Carolina affiliate.
An educational YouTube sensation for children and teachers around the world, Dr. Broughton’s international influence has won the hearts of many children yearning for fun and engaging pathways for learning who affectionately refer to him as “MISTER B”. His first song, “Watch the Letters Get Down,” which debuted in March of 2015 has become a popular hit in classrooms around the world. Dr. Broughton advances his research and passion for culturally responsive learning by sharing his expertise as Chief Consultant of A.V.A. Educational Consulting, LLC, which provides professional development support and coaching to teachers and administrators. Numerous awards and achievements underscores Dr. Broughton’s fervor for academic excellence and service. Notably, awards such as the National Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated Alumni Brother of the Year, South Carolina Black Pages Inaugural Top 40 Under 40, and Claflin University Faculty of the Year validates Dr. Broughton’s commitment excellence. He enjoys relaxation, exploring new cuisines, weightlifting, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
